Voip/Telecom – What Is Voip/Telecom?

Our systems for communications are evolving rapidly with changing technology of which voip/telecom serves of a good example of one of these communication systems. It started being used in the 90’s but has made its way into the mainstream within the last decade. Many people have found uses for the inexpensive and convenient method of communication.

In laymen’s terms voip/telecom is just telephone communications that occur over the Internet instead of a normal phone line. Again, one of the most popular characteristics of the technology is the relatively low price of the technology. Another attractive feature is that you can use many different systems on the same line like multiple phones, Internet and fax.

The conference call abilities are the original feature that attracted many big corporations to the technology. A large amount of people can join the conference call easily. You can choose whether to have a video or voice conference call with the press of a button.

On a traditional phone line you normally have to pay an extra fee to carry out conference calls. With voip/telecom you don’t incur any extra fee. This feature has also attracted smaller business as it allows them to communicate like a larger corporation with little to no extra cost than they would have with a standard phone company..

Voip/telecom does have some not so popular characteristics. Some of the obstacles with voip/telecom are problems with dropped calls and voice delays. You do run some security risk as the system can be hacked into like any computer that uses the Internet.

Another big obstacles is that the voip/telecom system will not function without an electric source. This isn’t the case with traditionel phone lines. This is why most times your phone is not affected by power outages. With voip/telecom if the electric goes out so do your phone and all other communication systems. However, these inconveniences are minimal compared to the huge benefits offered by this system.
