VoIP – Three ways to use VoIP For Make Cheap Phone Calls

Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology presents the revolution in the way people communicate. Making phone calls through broadband, no doubt, is the future of telephony.

In this article, I would like to present to you some of the ways VoIP technology is used to make cheap telephone calls.

Whether you know about voip technology or not, Whether you already make phone or video calls through your computer, it always helps to have a more clear understanding , of how this new technology of telephone services works and how it can be used.

The technical name of Voip and its meaning is ‘Voice Over Internet Protocol’ sometimes referred as ‘Voice Over IP’, or simply ‘VoIP’
Voip allows us, the end user, to make cheap phone calls using broadband connection utilizing the net.

You probably heard of ‘VoIP phones’ or “IP Phones”.
VoIP is, basically, the general term for this technology which allows making telephone calls through the Internet.
Voip technology uses audio systems that encodes speech that are then transmitted digitally over an Internet Protocol network.

Here are three of the most popular and basic ways of using VoIP technology and internet broadband connection to make cheap telephone calls.

1. PC to PC
The most simplest way to use VoIP is ‘PC to PC’.
For this, you and the person you are calling to needs to be at the computer.
You will both need a headset and a microphone.
You’ll will also need either USB VoIP (IP) phone, which plugs into your computer’s USB socket.
In case you don’t have a USB VoIP phone you can download or install a software called a ’softphone’. This allows VoIP calling without the need of any outside equipment.
The benefit of going this route is that this is the cheapest way to make a VoIP call.
The two most common disadvantages are that the call quality is usually not that good and you and the person receiving the call, are both tied to the computer when you make and receive the call.

2. PC to Phone
The second way of using voice over IP is by using your computer to call a landline or mobile phone.
The advantage of going this route is that the person you’re calling to doesn’t need any special equipment – he recieves the call direct to his landline or mobile phone, he doesn’t need to be signed to the same service you are (or to any other service for that matter), etc.
The disadvantage is, tha you will be, again, tied to your PC and you will be charged for these ‘outage’ calls.

3. Phone to Phone
Once you sign to a VoIP provider service, you are supplied with a VoIP adapter. The adapter connects your telephone to a broadband modem / router on your computer.
The adapter converts the analog signal to a digital signal.
The moment the provider’s VoIP software is installed , you can continue to use your phone just as before, using your broadband connection to make cheap phone calls.
In order to make your call, you don’t even need to switch on your computer.
You just pick up your regular digital cordless (DECT) phone and dial and when the phone rings at the other end,the person receiving the call just picks up the phone and answers.

The big advantages of using voice over IP this way, is that your computer doesn’t need to be switched on.
The person you are calling to doesn’t need to be or be at their computer, they don’t even need to have a computer and they don’t need to be signed up to the same VoIP provider.

At this stage, among the three methods, this is the most easiest way to use VoIP and Make Cheap Phone Calls, not to mention the superb sound quality these calls have.
