Is anyone in UAE (Dubai or Abu Dhabi) able to use VOIP like Skype or Vonage to call the US with a US Number?
I am wanting to to use a VOIP in Abu Dhabi to make and receive calls to and from the US with a US phone number. What kind of connections or VPNs are necessary to bypass Etisalat or Ud? I am looking for answers from people that have actually used VOIP recently in UAE and what they have found works best.

Generally skype is blocked throughout most of the UAE. Sometimes you can get google talk to work, and MSN talk sometimes works as well.
But since all of those bypass paying the government for international phone calls, the government blocks those services.
Don't know what VOIP is, but I use Skype all the time to call the US. Some of my friends can't get it though, so it is blocked in some parts. I live in Dubai Marina
